NEVADA
The Silver State offers low tag numbers, generous season dates, and vast tracts of public land makes it a great hunt if you can get a license. While trophy quality is largely dought-affected, the potential for a giant always exists, and nice critters are available even on off-years.
Elk are Nevada’s crown jewel with excellent opportunities no matter the license you hold. There are archery, muzzleloader, and rifle hunts spanning the breadth of season dates, though the few hunts that occur in the heart of the rut usually are with a muzzleloader. The trophy quality is as high as one can find anywhere, though the nonresident drawing odds are very steep no matter the hunt.
Mule deer are where the bulk of hunting opportunity are offered in the state. Archers can expect a license every few years if they are applying aggressively with the majority of the tags given in the northeastern part of the state. Aggressive hunters are generally rewarded with quality critters, but contrary to popular belief, a giant will take time or a guide to turn up consistently.
Pronghorn hunting in Nevada offers consistent quality, as well. Early seasons and dry conditions mean the seasons often revolve around hunting water or near ag fields. It’s a great experience if a hunter wants limited competition and the chance for a special goat.
