Podcasts To Help You Kill An Elk With A Bow

It took me 5 hunting seasons, 5 missed shots, 70 in-season days, over 500 boot miles, and an unknown (but absurd) amount of gas money before I killed my first bull elk with a bow. I made nearly every mistake in the book (and probably some that weren’t in the book) before my broadhead found it’s mark. While I will admit that the journey to killing my first elk was anything but smooth, developing a hunt plan was the first crucial step

Here’s how I approached that season:

  1. Hunt aggressively from the truck to get more at-bats

  2. Hunt the high country & be there early

  3. Hunt the lowest parts of the forest that borders private land

Looking back, the mindset shift from “I hope I luck into an elk” to “I will create a plan to find success” led to consistent success on a dozen hunts since then.

Listen to these conversations about how I went from trying to get lucky while archery elk hunting, to developing this tried and true game plan from the mentorship of Cody Rich of the Rich Outdoors Podcast.

Hopefully, this podcast is helpful to a lot of you and I know many of the listeners are in very similar shoes as Jaden. Let us know what you think!

(Originally Published on The Rich Outdoors | July 4, 2019)

Back in early May, Jaden Bales jumped on the podcast to talk about taking his hunting skills from that 101 level up to a 201 level. This conversation actually sparked quite a topic for us as we really have expanded on this idea over the last couple of months. Since that podcast, we actually put out a 201 mini-course and are working on a 201 gun build. In this podcast, we expand further on what we talked about but also we continue in Jaden’s search to kill a bull elk with his bow. As scouting moves from e-scouting to boots on the ground we go over some of the things Jaden has found my advice on how to interpret and plan based on what he has been seeing.
